The Hsieh-Wilson group develops chemical approaches to understand the roles of glycans and their associated proteins in neurobiological and disease processes.
GROUP NEWS
September 2024 - Congratulations to graduate student Maia Helterbrand on passing candidacy!
September 2024 - The latest from our lab in JACS: a new chemoenzymatic labeling method for α-1,6-linked fucose (core fucose), with ELISA integration for detecting cancer-related biomarkers in patient serum samples. Congratulations to first authors Jean-Luc Chaubard and Qiang Zhu, as well as the rest of the team! Check out the paper here.
July 2024 - Undergraduate student Ardra Charath has been named a 2024 John Stauffer SURF fellow! Congratulations, Ardra!
May 2024 - This month we are congratulating our newest PhD candidate, Hailan Yu, and welcoming graduate student Sophia Gonzalez to the lab!
March 2024 - Graduate students Andrew Schilling and Stefan Hansel have joined the group. Welcome!

September 2023 - Welcome to the newest graduate student in the Hsieh-Wilson lab, Maia Helterbrand!
June 2023 - An exciting month for the Hsieh-Wilson lab! Out now in Nature Chemistry: our synthesis of 64 HS tetrasaccharides displaying a comprehensive, diverse array of sulfation sequences. Binding studies reveal insights into the sulfation code. Congrats to Lei Wang, Alex Sorum, Bo-Shun Huang, and coworkers! Access it online here.
Additionally, check out the Research Briefing for a summary of the work!
June 2023 - Check out our preprint now available on bioRxiv introducing Networking of Interactors and SubstratEs (NISE) – a systems-level approach to identify and organize the many possible functions of O-GlcNAcylation across the proteome. Access it online here.
June 2023 - Congratulations to postdoc Tracy Huang for her latest paper, now out in PNAS. In it, we show that specific glycosaminoglycan sulfation patterns modulate synapses, perineuronal nets and social memory! Access it online here.
Additionally, check out this QnA with Linda and media briefing for the ACS meeting!
